Madison County resident Sherrye Perry has started a petition to be issued to Congressman Chuck Edwards lobbying for a post office to return to Marshall.

Perry started a petition she hoped to bring to Edwards' office, which reads in part:
"Over 12 months post-Helene and our residents are still being forced to drive 20 to 40 minutes to another county and town to receive mail. At first glance, this may seem insignificant in light of all of the losses of life, property and security that Madison County has faced. However, if you happen to be one of the 32% of our residents aged 60+ AND you are also one of the 37% of our residents that are Medicaid recipients AND due to age/health/finances can no longer drive, this continues to be life-altering."
Appearing before the Marshall Town Board Nov. 17, Perry said the petition, which she started October. 3, had received more than 300 signatures.
"One of my biggest concerns is for our aging community - those that are 60 and older and perhaps they don't have a driver's license.
"I'm a little frustrated 14 months later, trying to retrieve my mail."
Perry said she's met with Edwards' Carolina Cruiser twice in Madison County, including on Nov. 12, and also met with Pless.
"I'm still a little confused by some of it," Perry said, as Brown told her the USPS was working to bring the post office to its original South Main Street location, while Pless said the Postal Service wouldn't be returning there.

Sherrye has also started an online petition to get the Post Office back to Marshall. So far there are over 700 signatures, Lets get it up to 1000... You can sign it here.

During the month of May (Older Americans Month) I went to each of the 8 senior centers and presented these cakes to celebrate our seniors.

In April 2025 Sherrye was the liaison to receive 250 long term storage family meal packs. With assistance from AB Tech students these meals were loaded for delivery. Sherrye and Benson delivered all these boxes to all 8 senior meal sites.
